Swimming Update

I am so impressed with my kids and how quickly they are learning. After the 3rd day of Lesson's I was crying and ready to quit. I hated the swimming teacher and thought I'd never make it through 10 lessons. Now I'm wanting to keep doing them forever.

Maleah who started out being terrified to even put her face in the water, is totally doing the front crawl across the pool. She even does side breathing which is so cute to watch. She's a pro at the side stroke and swimming on her back. She dives to the bottom of the pool to pick up diving sticks. She is really loving swimming, and I'm amazed at how it just clicked one day and all of the sudden she has no fear and totally caught on to everything JoD was teaching her.

Aubree is a little trooper. She can float on her back like you wouldn't believe. The other day at the end of her lesson, all she would do was float on her back. Well, JoD (her teacher) is all about them saving themselves and learning to get to the wall and grab on. Well, Aubree was just floating on her back and wouldn't turn over to get to the wall. JoD tried to convince her for like 10 minutes after her lesson was over, but Aubree just kept floating. JoD had to go in her house for a while before her next lessons, so she told me "do not save her, she's got to learn to do it herself" So she left and hear I am fully clothed with my 3 kids and Aubree is in the middle of the pool floating on her back with nothing but goggles and her swimsuit on. Finally after much Begging, Pleading, and Bribing on my part, 20 minutes later, Aubree kicked just enough to get to the edge and grab on. She floated for 30 minutes total. It was absolutley AMAZING.

I'm so happy because I know that she would be able to save herself, if she fell in a pool, but now we've got to break her of the habit of just wanting to float on her back and do nothing else.

Wow! I am very impressed with your girlies swimming ability. I stink at swimming....(probably because I grew up in a life jacket at Lake Powell). Good job getting them swimming early---I want to do the same thing and I hear that private lessons are the way to go! Maybe I'll contact you in a bit about who you went to. (I think it would've been funny if you would've had to jump in though!)

Shelley, I need help updating my blog! I really don't know how to do it! I just stink at it. I need a little training on how to make it cool and fun! HELP!

It sounds like YOU are the real trooper! It must have been hard to sit back and watch your kids struggle in the beginning, but it sounds like they are doing great! I'm really glad Aubree decided to "save" herself and you didn't have to jump in!

Swimming comes hard for some. I am one of them. My first swimming lesson started with my mom throwing me off a diving board (at the instruction of the teacher). She tells me how aweful that was for her. It was aweful for her? I hate swimming now! You'll have so munch fun on your trip now that your kids can swim. They'll want to keep doing all the tricks they have learned at lessons!

Hey Shelley, Hey I think I keep seeing your little Maleah at the high school. Is she doing the little waspette dancer thing? She is so cute, Laynee is doing it too, but she looses her interest and doesn't really pay attention! SO maybe I will see you at the spactacular!! See ya soon, Mandy
