Trekkin 2009

Kent and I were called to be a Ma and Pa for our ward Trek. This was the 1st time our ward has ever done a trek. It was an amazing experience. I was sobbing like a baby within 5 minutes of our orientation when we got to Martin's Cove. I'm just appalled at what the pioneers went through as they crossed the plains. I love them for it. I would have never survived as a pioneer. We experienced horrible rainstorms for a good majority of the time. We basically camped in a muddy swamp. At times it was SO hard to stay positive. I kept wondering when I ever became an adult and had to be a good example. I just wanted to crawl in my tent and cry until the rain stopped. Overall, it was an experience I will never forget. We trekked a total of 20 miles, in Martin's Cove, at the Willey Center and we visited Rock Creek Hollow. In our trek family we had 8 kids. The boys were so amazing, they never once let the girls even pull the handcart, except for the women's pull. They felt it was their duty and never complained. I now see why a lot of men died on their trek to the valley, it was most likely because they were carrying such a heavy load in order to care for their wives and children. Some highlights for me were: The Women's Pull, Square Dancing, the river crossing, and I enjoyed trekking for 12 miles through tons and tons of MUD!! It made it a lot of more fun, so I guess the rain really was a blessing.

Aren't we so pioneerish??

Wow, I'm impressed! I haven't done the whole trek thing yet, but it seems like it would be a very moving experience. I bet your ward is so happy to have you and your family in their boundries. Glad you had fun at camp! I know that can be very exhausting!!
