Almost burned the house down

This was a scary experience!  We were bottling spaghetti sauce and turned the steamer on high.  We went outside to play basketball and ended up sitting outside with neighbors for about 2.5 hours.  We totally forgot the stove was on.  When we came in our house smelled awful and the pan that was full of water was bone dry and charred black.  The flames from our gas stove were curling up around the pan.  It was really sobering.  I'm so grateful it wasn't worse.
